Apple offers free bumpers for iPhone 4

Apple computer’s press conference this morning revealed a solution to complaints about the iPhone 4: free bumpers, refunds for those who purchased bumpers, or a full refund with contract cancellation for customers who return the phone by September 30.

Engadget quotes Steve Jobs, “But not everyone is seeing this — a small number encounter it. For those customers we’ll get them a case, and if that doesn’t work, we’ll get them a full refund. And we’ll continue to work on antennas that don’t have this problem. But I think we’re where the rest of industry is right now.”

“You can go on the web and look at pictures of Nokia phones that ship with stickers on the back that say “don’t touch here” — you can go on YouTube and see these. So right now the state of the art of the entire industry is that no one has solved this problem. Would I like Apple to be first? Yes. Can we make it better right now? Maybe, we’ll see.”
WSJ Blogs says, “Perhaps most of all, we were looking to see how Apple CEO Steve Jobs acknowledged a problem or whether he continued to downplay its significance. The conference began at 1 p.m. ET and lasted nearly an hour and a half. Most importantly, Mr. Jobs said the company will be giving away free cases or “bumpers” to its iPhone 4 customers. It will also accept returns for a full refund and will waive the restocking fee, and customers will be able to cancel their contracts with AT&T as well.”

The Huffington Post reports, “Friday, in the company’s first remarks following the magazine’s report, Jobs said Apple was “stunned and upset and embarrassed.” Yet Jobs denied that there was any “Antennagate” and spent part of the Apple press conference highlighting how other smartphones on the market also lose service when handled in certain ways.”

SassyQarla Blog says, “Apple also added that for those people who already bought iPhone 4 bumpers, the company will refund the cost of the smartphone’s accessory. If still unsatisfied, iPhone 4 users can return the phone, and get a full refund for 30 days.

Apple announced that it will offer free bumpers for the iPhone 4 through September 30. Customers who dislike the reception can also return the phone for a full refund within 30 days. At a 10:00 a.m. press conference in Cupertino, CA, the giant computer company finally responded to complaints about the iPhone 4 antenna problems.
