When The Dark Knight came out in 2008 it had the most successful weekend opening in box office history
How could they not produce a sequel?
Scheduled to begin shooting in April, 2011, The Dark Knight Rises is set to release in July, 2012.
Confident rumor puts Christian Bale in the cowl again, but even rumors are not suggesting who the “villain” will be.
That said, Inception co-star Tom Hardy has been added to the cast suggesting that the villain will be male—Catwoman, where are you?–but there are few “regular” villains left.
No matter how the casting comes out, it has been said that the general script is tight and exciting, needing only the insertion of the baddy.
Splash Page writes, “It won’t be the Riddler,” said Nolan, effectively pulling the leading villain candidate completely out of the pool.
“Another revelation to come from HC’s interview,” says Moviefone, “with the elusive director is that Warner Bros. has agreed to not go the 3D route with ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.”
The Christian Science Monitor asks, “Any guesses on what role Tom Hardy will play? There aren’t many classic characters left. Dr. Hugo Strange? Clayface? Man-Bat?”
