The Tamil remake of 3 Idiots titled Nanban which hit the theaters on January 12,  starring Vijay, Jeeva, Srikanth, Sathyan, and Sathyaraj has already received a tremendous response at the cinemas, and in the headlines is a dreamy dance sequence  featuring Vijay and Ileana D’Cruz .

The dance sequence is that of belly dancing in which Ileana has not only proved her dancing prowess but is also seen flaunting her slender, toned waist and body.

Nanban is about three friends, similar to the plot of Three Idiots, but the Vijay-Ileana romance is essential part of the movie. In the belly dance sequence Vijay is seen dressed up as a king and matches up to the dancing expertise of Ileana.

The running time of Nanban is longer than the usual Tamil movies,  3 hours and 10 minutes. That is because director Shankar included a lot of scenes in Nanban which were not in the original three idiots, which ran for 164 minutes. This was done to make Nanban as much a reflection of Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone, which also inspired Three idiots but was visually not as close to the book as Nanban now is. Thus it can be safely said that Nanban is not exactly a Tamil copy of Three Idiots.

Nanban the upcoming Tamil comedy by  S. Shankar is finally ready to be released. Touted as the most “expected film of 2012” the film features a star studded cast including Vijay, Jeeva, Srikanth, Sathyaraj and Ileana D’Cruz.  The soundtrack and background score released earlier last year on Dec 23^rd 2011, is by Harris Jayaraj and Shankar for the second time after Anniyan (2005).

Nanban is actually a remake of Amir Khan’s 2009 Bollywood blockbuster 3 Idiots, which itself was adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone. The film has been dubbed into Telugu as well. The film is currently set to release on Jan 12^th 2012. Which means, the film will qualify for 2011 awards. So far the film has been well-received by the Censor Board and easily received a clean U.

It is encouraging to know that the Telugu film distributor Dil Raju has already bought the theatrical rights of Snehitudu,the Telugu dubbed version of Nanban for the Andhra Pradesh market. Snehitudu is expected to be release on January 26, 2012.
